1. Position Overview

The Head of School is the chief academic and administrative officer of Fountain Gate Crafts & Trades School (FGCATS), responsible for strategic leadership, institutional development, and delivery of quality Technical, Vocational, and Entrepreneurship Training (TVET) aligned with TEVETA standards. This role ensures FGCATS continues to excel as a Centre of Excellence in Solar Energy, Renewable Technologies, and Craft Trades, fostering innovation, employability, and gender-inclusive skills development.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Strategic and Institutional Leadership

  • Lead the implementation of FGCATS’s strategic plan and uphold its vision and mission.

  • Represent the institution in partnerships with TEVETA, GIZ, SIAZ, KGRTC, UNZA, and other stakeholders.

  • Develop and execute annual work plans, budgets, and institutional performance targets.

  • Guide the School Management Team and Board in decision-making, reporting, and policy alignment.

B. Academic and Training Management

  • Oversee curriculum design, accreditation, and continuous improvement of TEVETA-approved programmes.

  • Supervise all departments (Solar Energy, Electrical, Bricklaying & Masonry, Plumbing & Pipe Fitting, and Construction trades).

  • Ensure compliance with occupational health, safety, and environmental standards in workshops.

  • Promote open and distance flexible learning (ODFL) models and industry-relevant ToT programmes.

C. Partnership & Projects

  • Strengthen industry collaborations.

  • Coordinate proposals & funding mobilization.

  • Public representation in tech groups.

D. Financial Oversight

  • Fiscal management & accounting.

  • Staff recruitment & appraisal.

  • Infrastructure/Solar Lab maintenance.

E. Social Impact

  • Solar bakeries & youth empowerment.

  • Gender equity in training.

  • Alumni networks & job placement.


3. Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil or Renewable Energy Engineering.

  • Diploma or Certificate in Teaching Methodology / TVET Education.

  • TEVETA Trainer Accreditation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Education Management, or Renewable Energy.

  • Professional membership with EIZ or equivalent.
